Experience the arts through osmosis

Take a break. Grab a snack. See a show. Heritage Center is your one stop shop for all things UD. We are open every day for classes, meals, shows, and so much more cool stuff. A central theme of Heritage Center is Art by Osmosis, which can be seen throughout the building in its art and architecture. We invite people of all walks to happen upon Art in its myriad forms, intentionally and accidentally, as they visit the center for their work, study, recreation, and entertainment.

See shows for only $5. If the show isn't free, then it is usually only $5 for students, before the day of the show. See world class artists like Mike Posner, Daya, Lonestar, and STOMP for only a fraction of the price the general public pays. You can save even more when you purchase a student ticket package!

Welcome Message from Director Tom Robbins

"Hello and welcome to University of Dubuque. I'm Tom Robbins, Director of Heritage Center. Now the title can become a little deceiving as the purpose of Heritage Center is evenly split between two distinct, yet supporting functions. We're a students center and we are an arts center. Now the students' center side includes things like Mike & Betty's ice cream parlor,  Sparty's Convenience Store, the Cybercafe, the Mail Room, and various other programs and services offered through "Student Life" on the third floor. Whereas, the arts center side of the building comprises facilities like Butler Hall, Babka theater, the Farber Box Office, the Bisignano Art Gallery, a suite of music practice rooms, and the Knapp stage at Cybercafe. Also, the academic department, Fine and Performing Arts, calls Heritage Center home. Our staff (Heritage Center staff) is here to support the arts portion of the buildings' purpose. Really our mission boils down to serving students through live arts and entertainment experiences. Now, granted, it will be an unusual fall with the various COVID-19 precautions we're all taking but, rest assured, we're making plans for live events to return inside our performance facilities early next semester. January, hopefully, fingers crossed; assuming the impacts of the pandemic have subsided by then.

Now, I know you're all meeting the rest of our staff in this session here today. Let me be the first to tell you we have a great team, anxious and ready to serve, and let me reiterate that our goal is to do whatever we can to enhance your time at UD through involvement in the visual and the performing arts and there's many opportunities to plug in. For example, you can join our Heritage Performing Arts Advisory Committee; HPAAC for short. This is a group comprised exclusively of UD students where we encourage you to take full advantage of exercising your voice and selecting events to host here in Heritage Center or other places on campus.

Although our performance series is focused primarily on fine art and cultural events and music theater and dance, there is the occasional pop artist! In the past, we've hosted performers like DAYA, Third Eye Blind, Mike Posner and Jordan Davis. We actually came very close to confirming rapper B.o.B. for this season and hopefully we'll be able to follow up on that in the future. Now perhaps you'll be involved in another student organization on campus and would like to produce your own event in Heritage Center. In which case, we'd love to be of assistance and become your partner; helping you bring an event to fruition. You'll also hear today about student employment opportunities at Heritage Center. We'd love to have you as part of the team and encourage you to inquire for more information.

We have a wonderful kickoff planned for this fall with the B2Wins; musical prodigies from Brazil who will actually be making their third appearance on our campus with a set of outdoor performances on Wednesday, September 9th, and you don't want to miss that. And finally, I want to welcome you again as a member of the UD family and the Heritage Center family. Don't be a stranger! We wish you the best. We hope to see you often. You won't regret a minute of the time you spend in Heritage Center, in fact, your experiences will be not only fun, but some of the most memorable moments of your college career. Thanks so much for listening. Take care now and stay safe." -Tom Robbins
